Required Materials: · 3 ring binder
· Paper
· Sharpened Pencils/Pen
Grading Policy: Grading Scale: Final Grade Determined by…
90% - 100% = A · Final Exam 15%
80% - 89% = B · Tests 55%
70% - 79% = C · Assignments 15%
Below 70% = F · Quizzes 15%
Final Exam: This will be a cumulative final exam at the end of the first semester.
Tests: A test will be given at the end of each chapter. Also, additional tests may be added at my discretion. Each test will be announced in advance. Any student absent the day of the review will be expected to take the test with the class on the scheduled day.
Homework: Homework is assigned daily. The term daily includes Fridays. Students will be expected to attempt to answer every assigned problem. If the students have difficulty understanding any problem they are required to explain their confusion. In addition to traditional homework collection, there will be unannounced Homework quizzes. NO LATE HOMEWORK WILL BE ACCEPTED!!!!!!!!!!
Quizzes: Some quizzes will be abnounced and others will not. We will have one of each type of quiz per chapter. The announced quizzes will cover more material and will usually be in the middle of the chapter. The unannounced quizzes will cover the previous nights homework.
Notebook: You will be required to keep a notebook for this class. The first page of your notebook should be the objective sheet. The next page should be your class syllabus. Behind this, you should have your notes, assignments, quizzes, and tests in chronological order. At the end of the semester your notebook will be collected for a grade.
Extra Help: I am available before school on a regular basis. Student are more than welcome to drop in (G108) and ask questions during that time. I am coaching several different sports and will not be available after school. I try to hold a chapter review around the dates of the test. The date and the time of the review session will be announced at least 48 hours in advance. Also, if you encounter any problems at home you may e-mail me and I will try to respond as soon as possible.
Hall Passes: Hall passes (bathroom) will only be giving at the appropriate time in class and only if the student has their agenda.
Make-up Work: Make-ups for tests and quizzes will be arranged by appointment for before school. Tests and quizzes will not be allowed to be made up during the class to ensure that the student does not fall further behind. All other missed work should be made up according to the Fulton County Schools Policy described in the Student Handbook. TAG students must receive their assignment before school the day they will miss class. THIS INCLUDES MAKING ARRANGMENTS TO TAKE TESTS AND QUIZZES AHEAD OF TIME.
Recovery Policy: High School Version (Quoted directly from FCBOE policy) Provision for Improving Grades:
Opportunities designed to allow students to recover from a low or failing cumulative grade will be allowed when all work required to date has been completed and the student has demonstrated a legitimate effort to meet all course requirements including attendance.
Students should contact the teacher concerning recovery opportunities. Teachers are expected to establish a reasonable time period for recovery work to be completed during the semester. All recovery work must be directly related to course objectives and must be completed ten school days prior to the end of the semester.
Teachers will determine when and how students with extenuating circumstances may improve their grades.
CHATTAHOOCHEE HIGH SCHOOL GUIDELINES: Recovery is available to students with a cumulative grade below 74% after a minimum of two (2) major grades. The maximum grade a student can earn for a recovery activity is 70%. There will be only one recovery opportunity per failed major assignment or test. The individual teacher will determine the means of recovery. THE STUDENT MUST INITIATE THE PROCESS WITHIN FIVE (5) DAYS OF NOTIFICATION OF A FAILING GRADE ON A MAJOR ASSIGNMENT/TEST.
Classroom Expectations:
· Show up on time!!
· Respect yourself, other students, and Mr. Dell.
· Be prepared and ready to work once the bell has rung.
· Participation in all activities.
* It is expected that you will follow all of the rules outlined in the CHS Student Handbook, as well.
Integrade and Parent Connect: The teachers in the Mathematics Department will update grades in integrade approximately every two weeks. Quizzes and tests will take some time to grade. Tasks will be edited as grades are entered and on occasion dates will change. Not every single individual assignment will be given in integrade. Due to the nature of mathematics and daily assignments, this would be a labor-intensive task.
Use of Graphing Calculators: Graphing calculators are powerful mathematical tools. Through their use students can visualize problems more quickly, discover mathematical properties, and validate their work done with pencil and paper. They must be used appropriately. Graphing calculators are not substitutes for students learning mathematical concepts and processes. They are to be used to enhance student learning. I have a set of graphing calculators for students to use while in my classroom. In order to ensure security, students will only be allowed to use one of my calculators on in-class quizzes and tests.
Game playing is not an appropriate use on the graphing calculator and it will not be permitted in class. If a student is found playing a game on any graphing calculator, I will confiscate the calculator, clear the memory of the calculator, and decide if further disciplinary action is warranted. If game playing on calculators becomes a problem in a class, that class may lose the privilege of using the graphing calculators.
No Extra Credit: No extra credit will be given in this class. If you are struggling with material or assignments, I will be happy to help you with them.
** All rules of CHS and the FCSD will be in effect in this class.**
